We give a great big THANKS to everyone who has made this year so successful. In the month of November, our volunteers donated an incredible $4718 and created an astonishing 766 ready-to-eat meals to community members in need. We cannot tell you how much this means, not only to us, but to our clients. Congratulations to all of our supporters. We are not just providing those in need with fuel to keep their bodies moving, we are feeding hearts and souls.

Plastic Free Delaware
Working Toward a “Zero Waste First State”Plastic Free Delaware’s mission coincides so wonderfully with ours, it’s amazing we hadn’t featured them before now. Since they were founded in 2010, with a focus on addressing single-use plastic bags, Plastic Free Delaware’s expanded mission has grown into seeking to eliminate the scourge of plastic pollution and build a culture of zero waste in Delaware through educational programs, awareness building, and policy initiatives, in order to improve the health and welfare of humans, animals, our communities, and our environment.
And their Zero Waste initiatives don’t stop at plastic. They offer workshops on reducing food waste, Composting for Kids, Plant Swaps, and SO much more! If you are passionate about making a move toward a Zero Waste First State, grab your reusable bags and join up with Plastic Free Delaware.

Make Caring Cool Again

Sometimes we feel absolutely tapped out by the end of the year. The days are shorter and so are our tempers. Shopping can be an assault on the senses and the Winter chill can seep into our bones. We all have a Mr. Scrooge inside, and lately I think many of us have let him show his ugly face for a little too long.

It’s time to rejuvenate! It’s time to rejoice! It’s time that we remembered that the greatest gift we can give each other is kindness. So here are a few things that your family can do this holiday season that will ripple out into your community’s heart.

Volunteer – I assure you, there is no better way to refill your cup than to give help where it is truly needed. And bring your young family members, let them meet the other volunteers, let them meet and smile with the clients, and let them feel the joy of helping their fellow man. There is nothing like it.

Cultivate Generosity – Empathy can atrophy if it isn’t used enough. Gather the family and research non-profits in your area and pick one to sponsor together. Label and decorate a change jar together and when it’s full, count it up together and make a donation to that charity for the amount that you saved. A little change goes a long way!

Turn Giving Back into an Activity – If we can instill in our children the value of caring for those we do not know, we can effect change in generations to come. Make it fun by holding a house-wide donation collection. Kids grow out of so much so quickly, board games that got played once, shoes that never really fit well, that stuffed toy that they were just going to *die* without when you went to Target and now they don’t even look at. Let them be involved in the decision making and remind them how happy another little boy or girl will be when they receive it.

Lead by Example – With so much going on in our adult lives, setting a good example is so hard, but that’s also why it is so important. The more we can normalize caring, the more of an impact we can make. Commit radical acts of kindness and consciously choose to live, speak, and act from a place of deep care and compassion for ourselves, our neighbors, and our planet.

May your hearts be full this Holiday Season!
