Happy New Year and welcome to the first newsletter of 2025. Before we dive into a few upcoming events, let’s take a look back at how we closed our most successful year to date.

In December of 2024, we received $18,943 in contributions which we in turn processed and supplemented into 8,608 meals delivered to community members in need. This created a total of $47,300 in donations this month. This is a truly incredible number of meals and we are deeply humbled and thankful for your continued support through this holiday season. We cannot do this work without your help. Thank you to our donors and volunteers who continue to make this important work possible. What a phenomenal way to end the year!

If you feel called this New Year to donate some of your time and talents to our organization, we are happy to welcome folks of all backgrounds and skill levels. Volunteer gardeners, drivers, kitchen help, we welcome anyone looking to lend a hand. Think globally, act locally… and what’s more local than your own backyard garden? 🌱

It’s been a cold and chaotic winter, but one thing that we can count on is that the sun will come out! And when it does, we want to make sure our gardens are ready to soak it all up. So grab a nice warm cup of tea, take a look out the window and let’s think about what we can do to improve our gardens for the coming season.

  • Review your garden space:
Assess your garden area. Make a note of what grew well last year, areas that need improvement, and potential sunlight exposure issues. Were your plants too close together? Could they have used a little more shade?
  • Choose your plants & Order seeds:
Select vegetable and flower varieties that suit your climate and desired harvest time. Start browsing seed catalogs and place orders for the seeds you need, ensuring you get them early to avoid stock shortages. (Did you hear about Peppergate last year? What a mix-up!) Remember, bright and colorful flowers help attract pollinators to your vegetables, they’re important too!
  • Test your soil & Prep your compost:
Consider getting a soil test to understand your soil’s nutrient levels and pH balance to amend accordingly. Start building your compost pile or purchase compost to enrich your soil. Nutritious and delicious veggies start with nutrient-packed soil. Set yourself up for success!

Plant a Row for the Hungry:
Everyone enjoys fresh produce. Help struggling families in your community by sharing your bounty. The TAPTF Society relies on gardens like yours to supplement our meals. When planning your garden this year, consider planting a row for your neighbors in need. A few extra seedlings in the planter can make a big difference!
