October Newsletter
Welcome to the TAPTF Society’s October Newsletter! Our kitchen has been busy with a bountiful fall harvest and I don’t say that lightly! In the month of September, we received $14,344 worth of contributions which we then supplemented and processed into $25,708 worth of donations. This brings the grand total to 4,503 nutritious, delicious, ready-to-eat meals delivered to our community members in need in the month of September, which is a single month record for us. It’s more than our first six months in 2020 combined.
These truly incredible donation numbers are all thanks to our volunteers, supporters, and donors like you who have continued to aid our mission of reducing hunger, reducing waste, and Sustaining Sussex. Thank you for the support and let’s keep it going through the upcoming holiday season.
Big Thanks to the Milton Food Pantry
We had a great time this past weekend celebrating the Milton Community Food Pantry’s 10th Anniversary! What a fabulous day of fundraising with our partners and friends. Thanks to everyone who gathered at the Milton Fire Hall to taste so many great local restaurants and caterers. Big shout out to our longtime partners, Po’ Boys Creole Restaurant for taking home the Best of Taste of Milton prize! Follow Po’ Boys facebook page for their weekly specials, we’re getting hungry just looking at them!
What’s Cooking Wednesday |
Join us on October 23rd from 6-8pm at the home of our friends Mary & Kevin Peck to enjoy a vegan dining experience in downtown Rehoboth. Together with VegRehoboth, Teresa and the volunteers have come up with a delectable fall harvest menu that you will not want to miss. Whether you have enjoyed the vegan lifestyle for a number of years or if you are new to exploring alternative recipes, we hope to inspire you with some delightful dishes! |
Just like the seasons, is your home due for a change? It doesn’t have to be Spring to do some Spring Cleaning, but what do we do with all this stuff? Our friend Julie from Clearinghouse for Clearing Houses has an upcoming event on Friday, October 25th at the Milford Public Library from 2-4pm where she will share her personal experiences as a downsizer and her tips for success as a volunteer at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore.
October 1st World Vegetarian Day
Did you know that October 1st was chosen as World Vegetarian Day in 1977 by the North American Vegetarian Society because it is the birthday of the ancient Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras who is considered one of the earliest advocates of vegetarianism. Pythagoras believed all living things were sacred and ever since, vegetarianism has been practiced for centuries for religious, ethical, and health reasons. Today we also know that modern animal farming practices hugely contribute to harmful greenhouse gas emissions in our atmosphere. Embracing a vegetarian forward diet can not just greatly impact your health, but it also the biggest personal tool that we have in controlling our carbon footprint.
